KEY FEATURES TO IMPROVE CRUSHING RESISTANCE OF STEEL WIRE ROPES
€0.00
Summary
Crushing damage is a very common and critical issue in oil and energy cranes and rope makers are nowadays asked for feedback on how to prevent or at least minimize this phenomenon.
This paper will go through a set of tests which have been performed on several different rope constructions by means of an in-house made equipment based on Blair hoist concept.
The tests aimed to analyse the typical rope features which determine the radial stiffness and the spooling capacity and which can therefore have an impact on crushing resistance, such as presence of compaction, construction, lay type and other special features, such as swaging.
The outcomes allowed to identify some useful concepts, both in the design and in the rope usage field, which can help to mitigate the damage associated to crushing.
