EVALUATION OF MAGNETIC ROPE TESTING METHODS FULL LOCKED ROPES AND SPLICES
€0.00
Summary
This study exhibits examples of usage of MRT method for ropeways in France, on both full locked coil ropes and stranded ropes (including a spliced part), by comparison between MRT inspector’s results and real defects. It shows that MRT inspectors generally adopt a safety approach by overestimating the loss of metallic area. The full locked coil rope examples show that MRT method is able to detect less local defects, as wear or corrosion, but cannot estimate the loss of metallic area with only peak amplitude, even for broken wires. The splice part shows inconclusive results for defects on tucks and tuck tail ends.
