EVALUATION OF CALCULATION APPROACHES FOR MULTI-LAYER WOUND FIBRE ROPE DRUMS
€0.00
Summary
The study compares common calculation approaches for designing multi-layer wound drums used with high-performance synthetic fibre ropes. It finds that assumptions about rope stiffness, friction, rope–drum contact, and tensile force distribution vary widely and strongly affect accuracy. Compared with experiments, predicted drum stresses often deviate substantially, showing that current analytical models frequently miss the real behaviour of fibre ropes on drums. The authors introduces a new experimental setup that better reflects operating conditions. The goal is to evaluate the reliability of methods and improve drum design for the safe and efficient use of synthetic fibre ropes in lifting applications.
