A REDUCED MODELLING APPROACH FOR CONTACT STRESS ANALYSIS IN ROPE-PULLEY SYSTEMS

0.00

Summary

The work presents a possible closed-form analytical extension of the Leipzig method for assessing contact and equivalent stresses under cyclic loading of a coated steel wire rope by bending over sheaves (BoS). Within this framework, both the core and the encapsulant are introduced as transversely isotropic homogeneous bodies. The closed-form express evaluation of the constitutive characteristics of the rope elements enables the use of a homogenization approach, providing a substantial reduction in computation time in case of transition to an FEM platform.
